NEWS THIS WEEK

 OCTOBER 13 2011

We have decided to dedicate our newsletter to rescue dogs and to raise money this Christmas for some of the dogs being abandoned here in the UK and if you think globally the number does not even bare contemplation.

Financial squeeze sees 345 dogs abandoned every day

The number of dogs being abandoned as strays has soared to its highest level in more than a decade, with the recession and the growing use of animals as fashion accessories or status symbols being blamed for the increase.

Horror Stories from around the World

A photo in our NEWSLETTER this week shows a dog in Spain, at the end of hunting season, when the dogs are of no further "use" to the hunters, they are hanged to death and left to rot.

Apparently this is not an uncommon occurrence in Spain and many other Countries around the World.

We will research this further and report on it in the near future.

Questions need to be asked about responsible and ethical use of dogs used to work  or kept as pets  as there is no excuse for cruelty of this nature.

Please send us your comments.

Now do you have a pair of UGG boots?

I won't launch into a description of them, as Wikepedia as usual sums them up very neatly.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugg_boots

If you do then you might want to consider their origin, apparently the SUN newspaper had video evidence of Racoon Dogs in China being skinned to make these fashion boots.

Apparently it is only the cheaper versions, so as long as your have a DESIGNER label, and you don't mind smelly feet you are alright!

We have 3 abandoned dogs staying with us, including Polly ( now TWIGGY) , who is deaf. She is totally adorable and has a great character, but sadly cannot hear a thing, so that makes her rather difficult to manage, but when she looks into your eyes you can't help but love her

ANIMAL NEWS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Mind the COWS!
A lady killed just a few days ago was one of a number, who have been killed walking their dogs through a field of cows.
Unfortunately even a responsible dog owner like this lady underestimated just how protective Cows can be, particularly when they have calves, as many do at this time of year, and whilst we all want to enjoy the countryside it is important to bear in mind that we are the visitors, or guests and look at it from the Cow's point of view, as they saw a barking dog as a threat, and were only protecting themselves, and their young.

The best option particularly when Cows have calves as many do at this time of year is to avoid walking through their field if you can!

Jack in a Hole....
According to the Daily Mail 10/9/11 Jack, yes you have guessed it a Jack Russell Terrier, who liked to chase rabbits ( no surprise there ) got stuck in a hole for 16 days, and his owners in Yorkshire, had given up all hope of finding him, when a friend walking her dog hear whimpering and on closer inspection, found him stuck firmly, so a bit of digging soon got him and out!, Now he's find and no doubt already off to fight another day!

Abandoned Dog
 With Divorce Note
This dog was found on a man's driveway.
And according to the note a child's parents had got a divorce and Instead of letting the puppy letting the dog go to the rescue, the child allegedly set him free instead, in the hopes that whoever found him would give him a "better chance" than the often over-crowded rescue kennels

The letter ends on a bittersweet note:

"This is my birthday money for any of his care. He is used to kids, not other dogs. He’s a good boy. I know God will take care of Mr. B – Everyone loves him…especially me. Thank you.”
